Also known as Indian ginseng or withania somnifera, the herb ashwagandha has been used for centuries as a tonic with adaptogenic effects. Because it has a direct effect on your adrenal glands and production of the stress hormone cortisol, it can help your body manage stress, especially the effects of long-term stress/chronic fatigue and burnout.

If that’s not exciting enough, recent clinical trials are showing positive results in using ashwagandha to support the balance of female sex hormones, particularly during times of hormone changes such as perimenopause. This is welcome news if you are experiencing symptoms such as hot flushes and brain fog.

A small clinical study in healthy adults in perimenopause shows that taking a specific ashwagandha root extract (KSM-66) for 8 weeks improves menopausal symptom severity by 24%, compared with 11% in those receiving placebo. Quality of life and hot flashes also were improved in those taking ashwagandha.

It’s not just the menopause this fabulous herb can help with. There is ongoing research linking its benefits for improved fertility, regulating the menstrual cycle, PMS, and improving sexual function. It seems the isoflavones and flavonoids in ashwagandha can mimic oestrogen activity.

This means it may be helpful for conditions that result from hormone imbalance such as endometriosispelvic inflammatory disease (PID), and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Further trials are needed but its looking promising so far.

Our popular Ashwagandha and Rhodiola Complex contains a unique blend of 3 well known adaptogens of Ayurvedic favourites, ashwagandha rhodiola and holy basil and we've added some vitamin C to further support the nervous system and psychological function and pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) to aid mental performance. Rhodiola also shows a raft of beneficial effects ranging from its ability to improve mitochondrial dysfunction (our cells energy powerhouses) and inhibit oxidative stress, to enhancing exercise performance and acting on the brain to boost mood.

We only use KSM 66 ® Ashwagandha which has been clinically proven for efficacy so you know you are getting quality ingredients you can trust.
